The Tang and Song Dynasties represent the most stable time period in Chinese history. This period of Chinese history is known as a golden age because of the many cultural achievements developed.

The Tang Dynasty collected taxes from several tributary states including Korea and Vietnam.

The Song Dynasty expanded trade along silk roads and the Grand Canal.

Both of these dynasties features a revival of Confucianism and had a strict social order that included the Gentry (wealthy, upper class citizens), Peasantry (the farmers), and lastly the merchants.

The achievements that you should know from these dynasties are: pagodas, calligraphy, the Grand Canal, gunpowder, and movable type.
