The Ottoman Turks are an Islamic empire that took over Constantinople in 1453 and ended the Byzantine Empire. The Ottomans would expand their empire into the Balkans, the Middle East, and north Africa.

Their control of the eastern Medaterrenean Sea and Constantinople blocked off trade to Asia from Europeans. Europeans sought to find another way to the East.

The greatest Ottoman ruler was Suleiman the Magnificent.

The Ottoman Empire lasted until WWI when it was known as the “the sick man of Europe”.
