Nelson Mandela was the first black South African president. Before he was elected, Mandela worked to ban Apartheid and legal segregation and racism. With the abolishment of Apartheid, Nelson Mandela was elected president in 1994.

Panafricanism = the idea of unity for all Africans across Africa and the world. The African Union supports this belief.

Ethnic cleansing = genocide = killing of a certain people due to their race, ethnicity, or religion.
